HP Elitebook 850 G3 win Pro 10
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Four months ago bought a new HP elitebook 850 win 10 pro set it all up and nice machine, until they dumped coffee on the keyboard.  Wrecked the motherboard, and HP repair center has no parts because its so new???????  What the??

So was thinking of buying the same unit and pulling the SSDD out and having it installed in a new machine to make it simple!!  Have old one fixed when available.

Can I do that or is the Win 10 Pro licensed off the motherboard and the old drive will not function as hoped??? Something about TPm??  Hate to have to reload everything!!

In trouble

Thanks!!

@1cp-r_hello

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Unfortunately, yes -- the Windows version on the SSD is tied to the original PC, so that if you move it to a different PC, it will not work.

However, I will contact the forum Mods to see if someone from HP can contact you about your situation.  So, expect a response from a Mod and a PM from HP.

Good Luck

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum.

OK here is where i stand on my brand new $1,600.00 -  HP 850 g3 elitebook.

"A BIG BOAT ANCHOR"

  Been at authorized repair center for a month with no available parts, no estimate on if they ever will get parts in to repair it!!!   They can't even get data off the perfectly good hard drive because its encripted to the bad motherboard.

Going to go pick the HP computer up, call NYS attorney general on poor parts availability, and I guess sit on it for a year collecting dust!

Notes: to HP rep no answers!

Your colleagues dont seem to have any connections because i have heard nothing from them!  So I have a computer that has an encripted hard drive, a burnt out mother board and no parts and no answers!  M y next message board is not going to be very nice but very details.  Please get some help soon!

Buyer beware of HP computers, this is unheard of with a business computer!!!   How about my money back in court???

Hello in which country do you live , to have such a bad experience ?

if you encrypted the hard disk using Windows bitlocker , and you have the encryption key , you can decrypt the disk even with another computer.

so the main question is : do you have the 48 digit Encryption key ?

If yes ,you can decrypt the data, if answer is no, your data are lost.

Bye
