I bought this desktop around two years ago, now. and it has served it's purpose well. However, around 4 months ago, I decided to upgrade the graphics card, since the warranty had ran out anyway, and therefore I had to buy a new case as well, since the one the pc came with was too small for the new graphics card.
I installed everything, and it all seemed to work, but when I booted up the pc for the first time after changing the graphics card, the error: "Error 512 - rear chassis fan not detected" Came up. It said press F1 to continue, and so I did. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, so I just went with it, however, recently this has started to bother me again.
I went online and checked how to remove this error, and the best answer I found was enter bios and go to advanced, then disable system fan check. However, in my case, there were basically nothing I could do in bios. There were only a handful of options, and none of them had to do with fans. My currnt bios is AMI 80.46
So my question for all you smart people out there is: How do I fix this? Update bios? I don't really want to buy a new fan or motherboard, since I am saving for a processor upgrade! 🙂
Thanks for all and any answers! 🙂

Hi @TechnoWaffle,
I hope you enjoy your visit to the HP Support Forums. I understand you are having an issue with a fan error. I will be glad to help you.
First I would check all the fans are running, and all the cable are connected correctly? How many fans are there? The HP case had power fan, case fan, cpu fan, and a video card fan.
I can not see any option to turn off the bios notifications.
If you still have the HP case you could change the power supply to match the viceo card requirements and use it.
Please keep me informed of how things went and I will gladly do all I can to help you.

The new case I bought is a NZXT H440 Razer Edition. It has Three 120mm intake fans, and 1 140mm exhaust fan, and all of them are running. Could the problem be that the exhaust fan in my new case is bigger than it was in the original pavilion case?

Hello. I had the same issue cause i've recently changed my pc case, and i connected new case's backside fan to my hp motherboard. And after that, i had this error. I think that HP motherboard doesn't accept any other type of fans except it's default fan, and although every new fan works nice, hp still shows this message about not detecting it. So i decided to re-connect my old fan (which was from the beggining together with my hp motherboard when i had bought my hp pc) in this chassis fan place, and the other fans of the case (fortunately these are molex fans) right to my new power supply.
The only thing you can do (i suppose) is to find your old chassis back fan and put it again to your hp motherboard. If this fan doesn't work anymore, try to find one absolutely similar and buy it. That's the only way for HP mobo to detect the fan without showing any bios message, to have it's own (factory given) fan connected.
