Hi I would like to know what should be the correct current rated fuse  to install in the mains plug of a desktop computer. In our building I have seen 5 amp and 10 amp fitted. I understanding is if an appliance rated under 700 watts it requires  a fuse below 10 amps. The general power rating on desktops PC seems to be around 260 to 300 watts which to me surgests a 5-7-8 amp fuse needed but I note that when a PC is shipped from new In the box  it usually comes with a 10 amp fuse in the plug which kind of contradics things. I also understand the plug fuse is mainly to protect the the mains lead and that internal circuitry as in the power supply is protected by additional smaller rated fuses inside the pc. I have looked online at this issue and cannot find a diffinitve answer.

Hello@soundman55,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I have read your post and understand that you are keen to know the fuse rating of the computer before connecting to the power outlet. I will definitely help you.

Usually, the new generation power supplies have the fuse built in and cannot be changed.

However, if you find an option to insert the fuse, then choose the 5amps fuse instead of 10 amps.

I also remember myself replacing the fuse on my personal PC once.

Hope that answers your question. Let me know for more.
