> I don't possess a hard disk for this cpu. I didn't receive all those things when it was purchased.
The manufacturer saved a few dollars by not providing such "physical" product.
Instead, they supplied two options:
1. a "hidden" partition on your disk-drive, that can be used to reinstall Windows 8.1,
2. a program on your 'C:' drive, that can create a "system recovery set" on one USB memory-stick, or by burning onto a few DVD-recordable disks.
Since your disk-drive has failed, neither option is available.

You need to purchase a new disk-drive.
Take your laptop to any computer-store, for them to recommend a compatible disk-drive.
See:

USB-Windows 8.1 64-bit Recovery Kit
System Recovery Kit for Consumer Notebook
Order Media:
You can purchase a copy of the original operating system from HP, and install it onto the new disk-drive.

Hello;
Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!
According to the HP product page for that model PC, it comes with a 500GB hard drive already installed.
That error message indicates that the existing drive has failed (which is why the boot loader can't find it) -- but if what you say is correct, that means the drive is not actually there.
Here's the link to the Upgrading and Servicing guide for your PC: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04716104
On page 13, it shows you how to replace the hard drive.
Please follow those instructions to confirm whether or not the hard drive is present in your PC.

We aren't telling you that you need a new disk "driver" -- go back and reread what we are saying.
That error message comes up if the drive has failed, or if the drive is missing.
I already told you what to do to confirm whether or not there is a drive physically present in your PC.
Please follow the instructions provided ...

> Can you tell me why would i need a new disk driver if it is telling me that the OS is missing...
First, a few definitions:
* disk -- a circular item, such as a plastic CD-ROM that holds music, or a plastic DVD that holds a movie, or a piece of cardboard that the bartender places under your glass.
* disk -- or "disk-drive" or "hard-disk" -- the part of the computer that stores both a copy of Windows and your personal files.
* driver -- or "device-driver" -- computer software that allows the computer to interface with a piece of hardware, such as a computer screen or a keyboard, to make it useful as part of a computer.
* OS -- the "operating system" -- a collection of files stored on the disk-drive that collectively run the Windows software.
* boot -- leather or rubber clothing that fits on your foot.
* boot -- the process of reading the OS from your disk-drive, to launch the Windows operating system.
In normal operation, when you turn your computer on, it "boots".
It reads the specific files that comprise the OS from the disk-drive, and Windows starts to run.
If your computer has *EVER* run Windows, you computer *DOES* have a disk-drive, and the disk-drive was working correctly at that time.
But, now, it seems that the disk-drive has failed, preventing the OS from being read from the disk-drive, and thus preventing Windows from running.
> original message: (ERROR: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed.)
A computer can have multiple disk-drives inside of it.
Typically, only one of those disk-drives has the necessary files to successfully "boot".
The other disk-drive(s) contain "data" files.
In your case, your computer only has *ONE* disk-drive, and that disk-drive has failed, leaving *NO* disk-drives that contain the "boot" information.
> I never had a disk.
Correct. The manufacturer did not supply a CD-ROM disk or a DVD disk that contains the Windows Operating System.
Incorrect. There is a (now-failed) disk-drive inside your computer.

> the previous link you provided me with is that what i need to purchase?
Which one?
Two people have been helping you, and each one provided different links.
Since your disk-drive has failed, you can either:
1. order a copy of the original Windows 8.1 from HP, for a few dollars;
2. purchase a "retail" copy of Windows 10 Home, for just over $100 US.
Either way, you will need to purchase a new disk-drive, and install Windows onto it.

Yes i was referring to the link you provided which took me to purchase a recovery disk from HP. the other website was to direct me to finding the disk drive located on the right side of the cpu.
So will the device work with a desktop computer because in the description it states for a Notebook? Im just asking before i make the purchase.
