Hi @Be301,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When a new battery is installed in an HP laptop and it doesn't power on or show any indicator lights, several potential issues could be causing the problem. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially fix the issue:

1. Check the Power Supply

  • AC Adapter: Ensure the AC adapter is working properly by checking if it powers on the laptop without the battery. If the laptop turns on without the battery but with the AC adapter, the problem may lie with the battery or its connection.
  • Power Outlet: Verify that the power outlet you are using is functioning by plugging in another device.

2. Verify Battery Installation

  • Proper Seating: Make sure the battery is correctly seated in the battery compartment. Sometimes, batteries may not be fully inserted, preventing proper contact.
  • Battery Lock: Ensure any battery locks or latches are in the correct position to secure the battery.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Remove Battery and AC Adapter: Disconnect both the battery and the AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Hold Power Button: Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Reconnect Power: Reconnect the AC adapter (leave the battery out) and try turning on the laptop.

4. Check for BIOS/UEFI Issues

  • Sometimes, updating the BIOS/UEFI can resolve power issues. If you can get the laptop to turn on with the AC adapter, consider checking for and installing any BIOS updates from HP’s official website.

5. Inspect the Battery

  • Compatibility: Verify that the new battery is compatible with your specific HP laptop model. An incompatible battery may not work correctly.
  • Charge Status: If possible, check the charge status of the new battery using a multimeter. A completely discharged battery might need some time to accumulate enough charge to power the laptop.

6. Test with Another Battery/Charger

  • If available, test the laptop with a known good battery and/or AC adapter to identify if the new battery or charger is defective.

7. Look for Physical Damage

  • Battery Contacts: Inspect the battery contacts in both the battery and the laptop for any signs of dirt, dust, or damage. Clean them gently if needed.
  • Laptop Damage: Check the laptop for any visible signs of damage that could affect power delivery, such as loose or damaged ports.

8. Check for Indicator Lights

  • LED Indicators: Look for any indicator lights on the laptop that might give clues. For instance, if there's a charging light that flashes or stays off, it might indicate a charging or power issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
