Pro 3400 MT
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have two identical HP Pro 3400 MT systems.  Both run win7 pro x64 or Linux.   Originally they were both running 7.13 BIOS and working well.  I happened upon a BIOS upgrade from HP to 7.16 and sucessfully updated one system.  It immediatly starting freezing up randomly.  I tried updating windows but found that Linux had the same issue so I am convinced that the new bios is the problem.

I went back to the HP site to find the old bios but it is not available.  I opened a chat session with HP but they also said the old bios was not available.  I find that difficult to believe!

Do you guys really delete old versions of bios every time a new one comes out?  I am searching for a bios utility that will allow me to copy the bios from my working pc and restore it to the broken one.  No luck so far.

****Cmon HP cant you go find an older bios update for me??????

TO everyone else, don't use the 3400 v7.16 bios upgrade HP has on their website!!  It ruined my 3400.

Hello,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. I am really sorry for your issues.

Updating the BIOS/UEFI is not a critical task. General recommendation I provide to users/customers is NOT to upgrade BIOS/UEFI unless they experience any kind of specific BIOS/UEFI issue. Updating just for updaing and just for using the latest verson is not solution. Any kind of update (no matter for what and who relesed it) can fix 2 issues but may introduce 10 more issues. Additionally, upgrading the BIOS (for any vendor) poses more risks because BIOS recovery is not that easy as compared to typical software updates IF something goes wrong.

Upgrade/update IF you have specific issues which you know are fixed in the newer version or for some severe security issues. Otherwise, keep the existing version as long as possible - this is applicable for any kind of update.

I have asked for a moderator to escalate your issue to a special team inside HP. You might be contacted here in private in the following days.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
