Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

just bought a few of these PCs. looks like the preinstalled software somehow preventing windows update from updating. i got two of updated but not in a straight forward manner. now on the third one, I even downloaded a cumulative update pack for windows 7. ran it, it just keep searching for installed updates. won't preceed to the installation.

question is, what is preventing windows from updating?

Hi:

See if this works...

Download these updates before starting the installation process and copy them to a USB flash drive.

NOTE: If Win7 is not already running SP1, then you need to download and install it before running these Updates.

Disconnect the network cable from the PC, or disable the WiFi.

Install these two updates from the flash drive before connecting to the network and running Windows Update.

You have to stop the Windows Update service BEFORE installing each of the above updates:

Run the command prompt as an administrator, and at the command line type:   net stop wuauserv

After you install the two updates, restart the PC and check for updates.

hi Pual,

It worked. Thanks!

but I wonder why windows update won't work. does the hp software block the update service?

You're very welcome.

No, that can't be it because I have an Asus tablet that refuses to do W8.1 Updates, and I gave up trying to fix it.

I have noticed (perhaps a coincidence and perhaps not), that many, many folks are having issues with Windows update on Vista, W7 ever since W10 came out.

I don't know if it is because Micro$oft is using different programming with W10 updates, and patching the older ones or what.

Google the problem. It is epidemic.

I have not had one bit of trouble Windows updating any of my 6 HP business desktops and notebooks which are running W10.  They are all old models too--the newest one having a 4th gen core processor...the oldest one, a nc6400 business notebook having a Pentium T2400 processor and the GM 945 chipset.

Anytime.

Another forum member just posted this latest WU fix webpage from Microsoft...Just came out recently...

I may try the one for W8.1 on my Asus.
