Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi All,

Upgraded to Windows 10. Cannot adjust brightness since then.

Tried upgrading display driver. Tried both Intel HD Graphics 4600 also MS Basic display driver.

The option shows up in MS basic driver but moving the bar or changing it from power option does not take effect.

Intel HD Graphics 4600 dosent even shows these options.

Bright screen killing me slowly. Please help.

Hi:

If your PC is still under warranty, I definitely recommend you do that.

You should definitely be able to adjust the brightness with the Intel graphics driver installed.

Hi:

If you are seeing the MS basic display adapter listed under the display adapters device manager category, that means the Intel graphics driver did not install, and that is why you can't adjust the screen brightness (amongst other problems).

Did you install this graphics driver from your PC's support page?   Install and restart the PC.

This package provides the driver for the Intel HD Graphics solutions in supported models that are running a supported operating system.

Capture.JPGHi Paul,

Thanks for your response.

I do have the Intel HD Graphics 4600 driver installed. Tried couple of versions of it. Of Cource the latest one.

They was i switch is - update drivers>Browse computer for drivers>let me pick from a list. See screenshot.

When i switch to MS basic driver i get the option to change my brightness under display settings...but the apply button is grayed out...and changing it dosent change the brightness. When i switch to Intel HD graphics driver the option to change goes away totally. Finding it very hard to use the super bright screen. Please advice. Thanks.

Genaric Pnp Monitor is enabled too....is that driver OK or should i use something else....this is a all in one desktop!

You're very welcome.

The generic pnp monitor is fine.  There would be no driver for that.

You would not be able to change the brightness on the basic display adapter setting.

But I don't understand why you can't change the screen brightness with the Intel HD graphics driver installed.

That baffles me.

Should I open a support ticket with hp support? Do you think they can help? The other options I have is to reinstall win 10 and see if something went wrong with this first install or revert back to windows 8 😒

Called HP Support - they said because this is a free upgrade to windows 10 these kind of issue can occur!!

They can provide support but it might or might not fix the issue. If not then they will help me go back to windows 8.

Will charge $99.99 for that.!!!!!

Hung up and used syatem recovery to go back to windows 8....bummed!!

Windows 10 is not for me.

Sorry, I wasn't able to help you get the brightness to work on W10.

I still don't get it though.
