Like I wrote above, you might want to uninstall the Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller device and the driver since that is when bad things started to happen after you installed the driver for that.

I deleted the host device and driver and re-booted in normal mode.  I still have the problem of having an inactive mouse and keyboard.

When I do a startup, press F8, and get to the safe loading screen, should I try "Last Configuration" or "Repair the computer"?

You can try the Last known good configuration but the PC probably thinks everything is fine.

 

At this point, I would try reinstalling W7 now that you know what drivers you need and figure out what driver is messing up the keyboard and mouse.

 

I would use the Intel USB 3 driver I posted instead of the HP one.

I attempted to install W7 again on my own but was not successful.  I took it to an expert and he used a utility to erase the hard drive and then install W7.  He did have to then add drivers, but he said that was not hard because they were available for W7.  Thanks for your help!
