Hi,

I have old HP 530 and i have installed Windows 7 on it (1GB x 2 RAM). Currently it works OK. But i want it performance better and want to upgrade its current Intel Celeron Processor 530 CPU to:

http://ark.intel.com/products/31728/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-T7250-(2M-Cache-2_00-GHz-800-MHz-FSB)

or

http://ark.intel.com/products/27252/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-T5200-(2M-Cache-1_60-GHz-533-MHz-FSB)

First one is fastes and better, but want to know will it work OK in my HP 530? i see there are only 1 Watt of difference, will it make battery or other problem? Which upgrade do you recommend me to go with T7250 or T5200 ?

Thanks,

Turkel.

Hi, Turkel:

That is correct. You have the GMA 950 video adapter.

Any other 530 notebooks you see with a Pentium C2D processor, all have the GME 945 chipset, not the 940.

If you try to install any Pentium C2D processor in your notebook, they will not work.

Click on this link below and then for each processor, click on Compatible Products on the left side of the page.

You will see that the Celeron is compatible with both the intel 940 and 945 chipsets but the Pentium C2D 7250 is only compatible with the 965 chipset, which your notebook doesn't have, as the specs for all the models I have seen that have a celeron processor come with the 940 chipset. I really don't think the T5200 C2D will work either.

Also want to know how to enable Intel Centrino Duo processor technology in HP 253 ?

Hi:

I'm afraid that your notebook only has theMobile Intel 940GME Express Chipset, which can only run Celeron processors.

In order to run a Pentium C2D processor, your notebook needs to have the Mobile Intel 945GME Express Chipset.

I have a HP 530 which has Intel 945GME chipset with Intel celeron M 440 @ 1.86 processor. 2GB DDR2 memory it works fine only the processing is a bit slow can it be upgraded to Core2Duo or the dual core by replacing the processor.

Hi:

There isn't much info on what processors are supported. All I could find in the quickspecs were a list of specific model numbers and the processors they came with.

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12722_div/12722_div.HTML

They say the best the notebook came with was the T5200.

I would think the chipset could run the processors with a 667 MHz FSB such as the T5750.

But that is pure speculation on my part.

If you upgrade, I recommend you install the latest BIOS unless you have F.06 or the latest installed.

There is a release note for BIOS v F.06 which states this:  Fixes issue where a "blue screen" error occurs when installing a new CPU.

I have a HP Celeron M, I am trying to Upgrade the CPU.... I really want to install an AMD CPU.  I relise I may need to change the motherboad to do this... is it better that I just buy a new notebook?  I'm getting a feeling this may get very exspensive.

Celeron M 530 @ 1.73 GHZ

mem. 1 Gig

32 bit OS

I am looking at 2 choices put Windows 7 opt. home or upgrade CPU and Memory.

Not a fan of Vista, but i've had it and know the quirks...  just some operations seem to take forever and on my desktop they zip through.

any suggestions besides the trash can?

Hi:

Yes, you definitely cannot put an AMD processor in an Intel motherboard and I don't believe there are any AMD motherboards that would fit in your HP 530.

Max out the memory to 2 x 1 GB, and if you have Vista installed, use some of the tweaks at the link below to make it run better.

I wouldn't put any $$ into it other than the memory.  It'll cost you at least $100 for an upgrade to W7.

You could apply that toward an off lease notebook with W7 from eBay where you can get great bargains on HP business notebooks.

I confirm. I set myself T7200 and it works great 🙂 Hooray = D
