The left margin on my Officejet pro 8600 printer has shift approx 1".

This is issue is not coming fro the computer it is in the printer.

It happens when I copy or produce a test page from the printer control panel.

Paper is set up properly in the paper cartridge (8.5" x 11" paper).

Hey tfjmm,

If the alignment on the page is off, then you may need to run the automatic printer alignment option under the Setup>Tools menu.

Follow these steps to align the product from the product control panel.
  • On the product control panel, touch the Right Arrow.
  • Touch Setup.
  • Touch Tools, and then touch Align Printhead . The product performs an alignment and prints an alignment page.
  • Touch OK to return to the home screen.
  • If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.

Does this fix the issue of page alignment?

I have the exact same issue:

The left margin on my Officejet pro 8600 printer has shift approx 1".

This is issue is not coming from the computer it is in the printer.

It happens when I copy or produce a test page from the printer control panel.

Paper is set up properly in the paper cartridge (8.5" x 11" paper).

When I attempt to run the alignment process the printer spits out one blank page and then a few seconds later the printer panel says the paper installed is incorrect for the size selected.   It is letter and the tray is set to letter and the computer is set to letter.   I am perplexed.

There is a piece of paper stuck in the printer which is stopping the full motion of the print head.  Move the head/ink all the way to one side and you'll see the paper stuck in there.  Just fixed this for my wife's answer.

Thank you so much for your post.  I was totally frustated.  The printhead kept stopping.  I restarted the printer several times.  When my manager stuck his head in the door and saw what was going on he told me to throw the printer away and by a new one.  I said it's less than a year old.  Than I decided to go to hp's site and see if anybody else was having this issue.  Started happening yesterday after I tried t print several two-sided documents off a website.  Well guess what - I found a full size sheet of crumpled paper between the printhead and the right side of the interior of the printer.  I would never have thought to look there until I read your comment.

You need to check your MARGIN SHIFT to make sure it is OFF ... when on it will shift the page.  To do that just hit copy, then the circular gear in the lower leftside, then cursor down to Margin Shift, and hit OFF.  You need to find a way this remains Off.
