Laserjet 4p
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have just acquired another 4p as my previous one kept sticking (in the paper rollers) but this new printer started printing very faint and now is not printing at all. It is not the toner cartridge as I know that prints and I have tried other cartridges. Any tips of what I can look at to get it printing? Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. The printer has Economode disabled and there is nothing wrong with the toner cartridge as it works in the other printer. I am at a loss as to what to try.

Hello, @ajugac

Thanks for the update!

It looks like a hardware issue with the printer.  You need to contact the HP phone support for further assistance.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Thank you for your further reply. I will look into contacting HP. But it has been suggested it could be the laser shutter which has popped off the spring. Could this be possible and if so how do I access this to put it right. Thank you  in advance.

Hello, @ajuga

It could be a possibility. The laser shutter is at the front of the laser assembly. It is attached to it by 2 pegs and a spring. You may need to open the printer cover to access them.

You can observe any physical damages or loose connections and try to fix if the printer is out of warranty. But if not, the better option is to call the HP phone support.

Hope that helps!

Good luck 🙂

Thank you for your continued support with this problem.  I will see if I can find the laser shutter. As the printer's warranty is about 24 years out of date I don't have much to lose.
