@1MARILYN,

Good Day.  A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with the printer not working with your phone. Superb description and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂 I will be glad to assist you with this.

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after a recent software or OS update?
  • Is the phone an Android smartphone or an iPhone?
  • Do you get any error messages?
  • Is it a Wireless direct connection or does it go through a router?

For now, try these steps:

  • Please perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://hp.care/2h9EPuh  by following instructions from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer

Then from this link: https://hp.care/2Jlevx0 (HP Printers - Using the HP Smart App (Android, Apple iOS) perform all the relevant steps based on your operating system and this should resolve the issue.

  • Step 1: Install the HP Smart app
  • Step 2: Print or scan documents and photos
  • Step 3: Check ink levels, order supplies, and access printer settings, information, and reports
  • Step 4: Personalize the home screen (optional)
  • Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

I’m trying to print and it keeps saying no air printer found. This happens pretty often but sometimes it prints fine.

@mysuga2, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Which version of iOS are you using?

  • Make sure the printer and the iOS device are connected to the same wireless network.
  • This printer supports only 2.4GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
  • You may also restart the router, printer, and the iOS device and try again.

Update the printer firmware

Also, check for any software updates on the iOS device

Once the printer is detected on the iOS device, follow these steps to print.

  1. Make sure the printer is turned on, ink cartridges are installed, and plain paper is loaded in the main tray.

  2. Open the item you want to print, and then tap the Share icon  or  .

  3. Tap Print or the Print icon  to open Printer Options.

  4. Tap Select Printer to select your printer.

  5. Change any of the following print job settings. Available settings vary depending on the app you are printing from, the print job type, and your printer.

    • Paper: Make any paper size changes on the printer. AirPrint automatically detects the paper size loaded in the printer or the size selected on the printer control panel. If the detected size is different than the paper in the tray, an error might display asking to confirm the size.

    • Number of copies: Select how many copies you want to print.

    • Black & White: Select to print in grayscale. This option only displays for color printers.

    • Double-sided printing: Print on both sides of the paper for certain file types.

    • Page range: Select specific pages within a document or webpage to print.
