From the manual for your notebook. You can upgrade to 16GB. It will help when using memory intensive applications such as games or CAD.
Memory Two customer-accessible/upgradable
memory module slots
Support for DDR3L (1600-MHz)
dual channel
Support for 16834-MB of system RAM
in the following configurations:
● 16834-MB (8192-MB×2)
● 12288-MB (8192-MB+4096-MB)
● 8192-MB (8192-MB×1, 4096-
MB×2)
● 6144-MB (4096-MB+2048-MB)
Replace both modules. Installing a single module that is not absolutely identical to the original will very likely cause one of the modules to not be recognized by the BIOS.
I recommend Crucial memory. HP uses it.

Page 5, 26, instructions given in 49-51 in this manual for putting another 8gb RAM of exact same configuration:

Increasing RAM doesn't necessarily improve performance as SSD upgrade gives. Just replace HDD with SSD. Use recovery media to factory reset OS to SSD.
