Apologies, i'm not entirely sure that i understand what you meant in your first sentence. As for your question, i honestly don't know what to do next. As i said initially, i'm really not very tech savvy so even following the instructions on the HP Help website and those that you gave me was very challenging for me. I was unable to get through to the HP customer support when I tried it and googling my issue got me nowhere, I just came here as a last resort to see if any people here had heard of this issue before. I suppose i'll just have to keep trying to get through to the customer support team at HP and hope that i get into contact with them.

Hello, there were two optional updates available and one of them initiated a BIOS update. Unfortunately upon restarting my laptop, the sound has not lowered still, no matter what i set the volume slider to. I truly appreciate all of your assistance with this, i honestly would have been totally lost without it. I think i will phone the HP customer support line tomorrow to see if i am able to get any information from them about this. Again, thank you so, so much for all of your help.

I found the problem is caused by Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - MEDIA - 6.0.9414.1 drivers.
