Elitebook 840 G2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey everybody.

I recently purchased an Elitebook 840 second hand. It wasn't working when I bought it...the previous owner said his son spilled milk on it and that HP quoted him an outrageous price for repair...which was why he was letting it go for so cheap.

Anyway, I located a very reasonably priced replacement motherboard on ebay and after installation I get no video. Wont display the bios, nothing happens except the power button *sometimes* lights up, along with the led's in front. They stay on for a couple seconds, then go off. Ive swapped hundreds of laptop mobos so I'm no novice...but this one has me scratching my head. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Manual: http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/manualsResults/?sp4ts.oid=734320...

Page 40-44 list the different motherboards each with different HP part number. Did you get the correct board it came with from factory? It is specific and unique for processor, graphic system, graphic, model and operating system.

May be a bad motherboard?

If it is having the exact HP part number, can you contact the eBay seller and report this issue.

I contacted the seller and he assures me the mobo is a working pull. So where does that leave us?

I'm not able to tell you where the exact issue from here. You've to troubleshoot yourself physically or try one another board with exact HP part number listed in the Manual.
