Hi there,
My HP Pavalion G6-2105 SA has stopped working. The day before I first noticed the laptop wouldn't start I was moving and downloading music, the laptop was working fine at this point and was turned off correctly.
The next day the laptop froze on the windows loading screen after the logo had appeared. After rebooting the machine I was prompted to load Windows start-up repair (or system repair) and although this would load, the laptop was stuck on a grey screen. I performed some tests using the HP advanced System diagnostics. The start-up test gave me the following error:
Failure ID: 9TU7H3-68485B-MFPX1F-60XL03
Product ID: B9N71EA#ABU
Hard Disk 1
I performed a System tune-up after this, the battery test was succesful as well as the Processor check and the Hard Disk SMART check. However the Hard disk Short DST failed, giving me the same error as the start-up test.
I've checked the forums and understand this may be an irrecoverable HDD failure, if this is so I was wondering if there would be a way to remove any files from this disk as there are some important files I feel are not backed-up anywhere.
Any help with this issue would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Lewis

Hi,
The 24 character error code does confirm a failure of the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.
One option you could use to try and recover the existing data would be to remove the HDD, place it in an external enclosure - an example is on the link below - connect this to another PC and see if you can access your files.
The procedure for removing the HDD starts on Page 44 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
