Pavilion g6
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

I uninstalled an avast protection product and when the laptop restarted it wouldn't go to the log in screen. I've got the welcome screen with the correct date date and time. I've followed the update BIOS procedure but the fault remains. Any help gratefully received. Thanks

Hi,

Perform extensive hard drive and memory tests from System Diagnostics UEFI by tapping F2 or ESC key as soon as you power on laptop. Let it finish.

If everything PASSED,
First try: System restore to a previous known good restore point: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03327545#AbT5

If no restore points available, please do a Repair Install of Windows 8.1 using the installation media: https://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26095-repair-install-windows-8-a.html

This will not delete data from hard drive.

Create UEFI bootable Windows installation USB (media) using Microsoft windows media creation tool: https://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/18309-windows-8-windows-8-1-iso-download-create.html

Thank Visrum. I followed your advice and this has sorted the problem. I've also managed to remove the avast program that caused the problem in the first place.

Thanks very much for your help. Much appreciated.
