Hi
I noticed that when I left the machine on Autocad booted up way faster. Is there any problem with leaving the machine on 24/7
Cheers

Hi,
I don't see any problem with that. We have hundreds of machines which are always ON and my observations: their batteries are much better after 2 years in comparison with our laptops (same brand, same models).
Regards.

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,
Riddle_Decipher is at your service.
As I Understand there's a slow performance issue on the PC,
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
Did you perform the scheduled tasks of stabilizing the Windows and increase its performance?
While you respond to that, I have a few steps to identify and resolve the issue:
Common causes of slow system performance:
- Not enough free disk space or disk errors.
- Applications that require a lot of system resources.
- Too many tasks running at the same time.
- Nonessential graphic features.
- Not enough memory.
- Overheating due to intensive graphic applications or dust in vents.
- Running multiple instances of anti-virus software.
Microsoft Fix it Solution to automatically improve system performance
To automatically improve system performance, click the Microsoft Fix it Solution:
Turning off nonessential graphical features to improve system performance
Graphical features and programs can use a lot of system resources.
Turning off these features can improve system performance.
This section explains how to adjust visual effects for best performance and how to disable Windows Aero.

The best way to do that is using the HP Guided Troubleshooter:
Click here to access it (simply select your description of the issue from the bottom of the screen to gain access to the next set of steps that should resolve your concern).
Let me know how that pans out
I hope you have a good day ahead,

Hello ,
Sorry for my late response on your above comments. Please note that my machin is just a month old and its a 3rd time I've booted it. Its on default setting. So I am wondering if any default setting is causing it. With the latest configuration I was expecting the lightning speed ( ofcourse realistic) but I can feel the lag time which should not be there. I am not sure how to check if thats the speed I am getting while booting the machine or opening the explorer is as per the expectation.
Kindly assist.
Thanks!

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉
I appreciate your time and efforts,
It depends on which game you're trying to play,
Although, Did you know the HP Envy isn't designed for gaming but for everyday computing?
(Keeping in mind the basic needs of an average user surfing the internet or using it for normal tasks as such).
That said, I'm afraid your HP Envy is not designed for gaming, its purpose is everyday computing and hence I would request you not to overload the computer with HD games such as the ones you've mentioned as this computer cannot handle it, to know about HP Laptops designed for gaming: Click here
Most Windows computers come with Windows Defender, but you might have a third party program to protect your PC. For most programs, you must first update the virus and spyware definitions to ensure the scan looks for the latest threats. Go to the antivirus company's support website for details on how to use your software.
If you use Windows Defender as your antivirus software, follow these steps to check for and remove viruses and malware.
- Search Windows for 'Windows Defender', then click Windows Defender in the results.
- Click Update definitions to install the latest malware and virus threat data.
- Select a scan option. Use Full if you have not scanned your PC recently.
- Click Scan now, then follow the on-screen instructions to remove any malware or viruses found.
If the computer has been infected, it will release the same and increase the performance, however, other than that, if the basic needs can be used or utilized, that would mean that the PC is working fine.
If I have helped you resolve the issue,

I dont know if you read my comments carefully, I am not using it for game and as mentioned I just logged in as a fresh computer. Please note that while booting it is taking 7 mins to give me window password screen . This is frustrating.
My Machine is HP Pavilion - Product number: X7P44AV i5 7th Gen. I doubt with such configuration the system should be super quick. I have taken all the updates for windows 10.
Please read the comments carefully before responding.
Thanks!

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉
I appreciate your time and efforts,
I went through your post/comments carefully, the only reason I mentioned about the game is because the issue with constant lags are usually related to gaming and I needed to use that as an example, that said, I request you to complete the steps suggested earlier with regards to using the WIndows Defender as it should help your cause, if it doesn't, I recommend you run a hardware test to be on a safer side:
Click here for instructions on how to perform the test on your hard drive.
if the tests pass, I suggest you reinstall the OS as there could be a corrupted OS,
however, If the test fails, capture the failure code and Contact HP:
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

Hello,
As per the suggestion I ran the antivirus and after couple of hours I found the frozen wall paper screen with the active mouse cursor but nothing was working. I had to forcily shut down the machine . When I restarted the machine it got stuck before I get the window password screen so after antivirus , this machine is not booting or loadingthe OS.So I wasnt able to do any hardware test. I am not sure if I am cheated by HP. Its been an month now and I am not able to use my new machine.
Btw, I should not miss to mention that sytem tooo windows update for almost 3-4 hrs and restarted multiple time during the update installation. Post that the sytem become super slow and stuck for average 8-10 min before I get the window password screen. After this only I ran the antivirus I received along with my purchase- Macafee.
WHat should I do ?
Thanks!

Hi @Ankur0403,
Thank you for replying,
As I understand you are having issues with the laptop freezing after running the scan on your PC. Don't worry as I have a few other steps which should help you resolve this issue.
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook: A power reset (or hard restart) clears all information from the computer's memory without erasing any personal data. Performing a power reset might fix conditions such as Windows not responding, a blank display, software freezing, keyboard stops responding, or other external devices locking up
Run a System diagnostics test as well as an extensive test on the Hard drive from F2 (Please capture the failure ID for further assistance).
If the test fails, I would suggest this could be a hardware failure. I would recommend you contact our HP phone support for setting a service for your PC.
If the test passes, I would suggest you try to run a system recovery using the partition available on your PC. Doing this will wipe off everything and set the computer back to the factory conditions. So, please remember to back up your data before initiating system recovery. If for some reason the recovery fails. The only other way to install Windows would be to order the recovery media for your laptop and using the recovery media you can install Windows. You can check if the recovery media is available online on www.hp.com/drivers by entering the exact model no. of your laptop. To find the exact model no. click here: http://hp.care/2bygf7l

Otherwise, you could also reach HP phone support to order the recovery media. If your product is out of warranty, please choose paid options to get the tech support number.
