About two months ago I replaced a faulty hard drive and everything has been fine since. Shut the computer off two days ago. I press the power button to turn on the laptop and the power button blinks once and nothing. Took it apart. Reseated ribbon cable connecting motherboard to power button. Unplugged power adapter, removed batter, held down power button for 1 minute to disapate any lingering power. Hit the power button, same thing. One blink and nothing. Power adapter seems to be ok as red light displays when plugged in. Suggestions on what to do?

Hello Peddyr,

Have you tried resetting the BIOS? If not, please try to do so by pulling out the CMOS battery. You must do that after you have pulled out the battery and the power cord of the laptop. Open the lid and localize the CMOS battery which lies next to the processor and it looks like a watch battery. If you have another CMOS battery, you can replace it with that. If you don't, leave your current battery aside and wait for some minutes for the electricity to discharge. Then, plug the CMOS battery back in and the power cord. Try to boot your laptop again and come back to the topic to tell me what happened.

Cheers.

Hi KY. Thank you very much for the advice. It was a real pain getting to the cmos battery as I had to completely remove the motherboard to get to it but it worked! Was able to do a system restore and recover everything. Only problem now is I have a hardware conflict and my computer doesn't seem to recognize my wireless adapter anymore. Any suggestions? Tried updating the driver of the conflict but it's a generic labeled device so no success. My Ethernet port works fine so I have internet

Hi again, How did you try to update the driver – through the Device manager or just going to the web site of the wi-fi adapter manufacturer? It's great that you can connect directly through the RJ – 45 port, because otherwise it would be much more difficult to load all the necessary drivers for the motherboard. If you haven't gone to the web site of the network card manufacturer, I suggest you to do so, because there you may find the missing driver. Good luck!

Hi again, I downloaded and installed the recommended drivers from HP but still no dice. I purchased a wireless USB receiver and I'm good to go again. Thanks for your help

I am having trouble with the same issue. I have disconnected everything including the CMOS but still have the same issue. Should I purchase a new CMOS?
