Trying to help a friend out. First the problem was getting anything, bought a new adapter now what it does it starts up can hear it start to whirl, then shuts down cycles continiously. Tried without the battery resetting the ram. Nothing comes up on the screen (may not be enough time)
Looking for suggestions? Unless people think the board is gone?
thanks Bruce

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.
I understand that you have a Compaq Presario F700 Notebook and it powers on for a while and then shuts down without any message. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
I would like to know if any changes (hardware or software) took place on the laptop after which this issue may have started. Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
- Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
- Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
- The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
If the issue persists, then please try the below steps:
- Remove the RAM out.
- Power on the laptop without any RAM.
- If the laptop continues to beep and does not shutdown then the motherboard should be okay and could be a memory problem.
- If the laptop powers off, then it indicates a motherboard failure.
Let me know the outcome. All the best! 🙂

Thanks,
I knew it did not have anything to do with printers or other things.
I was fairly sure it was the MB. I did as suggested and took out the ram
and restarted it, and it did the same thing shut down and tried to restart
continuously.
So not many options unless I can find a working used MB that is not to expenisive.
Which is unlikely lol
Thanks appreciate the help, I seem to always forget to take the ram out and restart.
