Pavilion ab032tx
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

Hey everyone

My laptop's 2 usb ports on the left side won't work. There's no power there too. I tried connecting my phone and it wasn't charging. It used to work fine up until a couple weeks ago. I checked my Usb device manager , this is what it shows :

 Universal Serial Bus controllers

Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host controller- 0100 (Microsoft)

     USB Composite Device

     USB Root Hub(xHCI)

Thats all.I've already tried scannning for hardware changes, disabling selective suspend disabling  My laptop model is hp pavilion ab032tx.

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

See p. 22 and 25.

(7) USB board (includes cable) For use in all models except Star Wars Special Edition models 809038-001 For use in Star Wars Special Edition models 837612-001

The ports on the left are provided by a daughterboard that attaches with a cable to the mainboard. Those modules can go bad and may need to be replaced. I don't think yours is a "Star Wars" model so you need the first listed part.

It is $23 from the HP Parts Store:

https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=3B70374BDE054E1287E2EB75CB3ACDA8&SearchIn=P...

If you are under warranty HP will replace it. If not, you have to figure a way to get it done and we are happy to help as much as possible from a distance. You may want to run an F2 diagnostic on it to verify hardware failure and get a failure code before calling HP.

I did the f2 diagonstic test.

this is what it says :

USB port check : FAILED

FAILURE ID : 68X73X-7ML89H-MFPWLJ-8D6V03

PRODUCT ID : M2W75PA#ACJ

Component test :FAILED

As expected. The port hardware is bad. It is not real hard to short it out. So are you under warranty?

HP Recommended

Nope. So how do i get this replaced? I'm from India. Do i need to contact a HP-authorized service centre around here?

HP Recommended

I would contact the Service Center. From what I have read here, they act as more of a general purpose repair facility in India than they do in the US. The other option is to just get the part and have a local computer repair shop install it. The job is only slightly difficult and if you are a bit brave could be done by an end user.

Can you help me? I have the same problem in my Hp Ab032tx laptop

When I go to F2 diagnostics I can see only 2 options,

1. Memory test and 2. Hard drive test

How did you test the USB ports?
