HP Pavilion 15 - AU147CL
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

From the product manual, it appears the M.2 SSD slot is not NVME compatible. I'd like someone to confirm that, and my other question, which doesn't seem to be addressed in the manual, is the SSD M.2 slot bootable? If I install an SSD and reinstall windows onto that SSD, will it boot from that, and can i use the already installed HDD as secondary storage?

Thanks!

John

Hi @John333,

Welcome to HP Forums and thanks for the post.

I see you are looking to replace the SSD M.2 with NVME and want to know if it would be compatible. You are also looking to have the OS on the SSD instead of the SATA HDD. Kudos to you using the manual to check for compatibility. I would like to help you from here.

Firstly, I would like to inform you that HP does not recommend you to change the configuration of the computer, you can do so at your own risk.

You were right about the compatibility of the hard drive, the computer only accepts SATA and M.2 SSD hard drives. Refer to page 32 and 34 in the manual

Coming to the second question, you can install the OS on the SSD hard drive and use the SATA hard drive for data.

Refer to this article, which would help you to change the boot order.

Alternatively, what you could do, is leave the SATA hard drive out of the computer, during the operating system installation.

Once the PC is running fine, you can insert the SATA hard drive back and use disk management, you can convert the SATA hard drive as logical or secondary HDD.

Let me know if this helps, for further assistance please reply.
