Omen 15-dc0980nd
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am hoping I can get an answer from you. I have contacted HP several times about my question, but they have always told me to go and Google my question. Googling it has not solved my question.

I own the following HP Omen Laptop:

15-dc0980nd

16gb ddr4 sdram (L10598-8508/937236-85106/937438-850) 2666 1.2v [2 sodimm slots]

The RAM stick is made by SK Hynix (as I have come to understand).

This particular part is almost not found here in the Netherlands - at least by Googling it as HP suggested. So I want to try other options. As I want to upgrade to 32GB, I would like to know:

1) Can I buy another(brand) 16GB stick with same specs (other brand) and use it with the current one?

2) If I can't find another stick like the current one, is it better to buy one 32GB or two 16GB (with the specs as the current one)?

But maybe, most importantly, how can I get my hands on another 16gb stick of what is already installed in my machine?

Hi:

I recommend you get the 16 GB PC4-2666 memory chip from Crucial since they guarantee compatibility.

https://eu.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/hp-omen-15-dc0980nd

If you want to find the exact chip, I have zipped up and attached a free utility below that will tell you the manufacturer and most likely the Hynix part number of the chip in there now.

Maybe you will be able to find it, but I wouldn't be able to help you source the part since I live in the middle of the USA, and don't work for or represent HP.

Hi and thank you for your answer.

Your recommendation is really good, but I was wondering if also any of these 2 would also suffice:

https://www.bol.com/nl/p/g-skill-ripjaws-so-dimm-32gb-ddr4-2666mhz-geheugenmodule/9200000062005044/

My apologies, this is a Dutch site so the language is Dutch, however, the specs could be understood.

***Additional Quesiton:

Which is better: 2x16GB or 1x32GB?

Max.

You're very welcome, Max.

The maximum memory per slot is 16 GB, so 32 GB is out, and even if a single 32 GB chip was supported, 2 x 16 GB runs in the higher performing dual data rate mode.  One memory chip and an empty slot runs in the lower performing single data rate mode.

The 16 GB kingston memory should be fine or the 16 GB size of the G.Skill memory should be fine.

Thank you. That is a lot of good information!
