Hi,
I recently completely cleared my laptop and re-installed Windows 7 due to a virus. I am having issues with my brightness and volume control buttons on the keyboard. The brightness buttons do not work at all and there is no option to adjust the brightness via the power options either. My laptop is stuck on the highest setting.
The volume buttons seem to adjust the volume appropriately, but the icon that typically appears in the middle of my screen when I do so is not there (the grey volume icon that appears when you use the f9 and f10 buttons and fades away shortly after). Additionally, the mute botton also seems to work but the red light on the f11 key does not respond accordingly, I only know it works from the volume icon on my taskbar.
I had some help from Paul Tikkanen in downloading several missing drivers for various other issues so I'm wondering if this is also a poblem that can be solved with a similar download? If not, is anyone able to suggest other solutions?
Thank you,
Kristen

Hi, Kristen:
Did you install the graphics driver? If the graphics driver isn't installed, you wouldn't be able to lower the brightness.
This package provides the driver that enables the Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver.

Did you install the audio driver?
This package contains the driver that enables the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

If you did install the graphics and audio drivers, did you also install the Quick Launch software? That controls some of the Fn keys.
This package contains the HP Quick Launch Software, which enables special function keys on supported notebook models to be programmed. For example, the HP Quick Launch Software enables users to press the Fn+ESC keys to view system information. This software works with the supported operating systems.

If you want to see the brightness and volume levels displayed on the screen, then you need to install this software...
This package provides the HP On-Screen Display Utility for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The HP On-Screen Display Utility enables the pop-up graphic displays that are shown on the screen when certain characteristics, such as volume or brightness, are changed.

All of that worked perfectly! Thank you so much yet again, Paul. You have no idea how relieving your help has been! I'm sure I will run into more missing drivers and we'll chat again, but for now everything seems to be fine, thanks!
