hp dv6 7040tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi People, I have a HP DV6 7040tx laptop running Win 10.1. The following are the specs:

  • 6GB RAM
  • 750GB HDD (5400RPM)
  • 2GB 630M + Intel 4000

I'm planning to add an extra SSD of 240 GB (Samsung EVO 840). Will it be compatible and can I add a 2.5" SSD to my laptop?

Here is the product info: HP DV6 7040tx

Thanks

No sorry there is no bay for an additional 2.5 inch SATA drive or SSD. You can add a drive only by forfeiting the DVD drive and using an optical bay adapter, but you will not want to put an SSD in one of those because the interface is slower. You would want to put the SSD inside the laptop and the mechanical drive in the optical driver adapter/caddy.

@Huffer, yes. I'm ready to forfeit my DVD drive. I was also planning to install SSD inside the machine (replacing the current HDD) and then adding the HDD to the caddy. Will this work?

Thanks.

Will all SSD fit mine? Will Samsung EVO SSD be compatible?

Also, I have a confusion of m.Sata. Will these cause compatibility issues?

According to these specs it does not:

According to the specification of User Guide and Specification, it supports mSATA if I have an intel processor. And, yes. I have a Intel I-7 processor. (3610QM)
