Envy 15t k000 CTO(Energy Star)
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I just bought an Envy 15t K000 CTO laptop and want to ADD an SSD as the system drive. At the same time, I want to keep the original HDD at its place as a storage for pictures and videos. I found a maintenance handbook on hp.com and it said that the K000 model had a m2280 slot.

So I wonder if I could buy an m2280 SSD and install the operating system in it while keep the HDD and the optical drive.

Well I just disassembled the system board and had a look inside. Now I can confirm that the model Envy 15t k000 CTO does not have an m2280 SSD slot although the manual says it have. In fact, there's space for the slot behind the system board and the size should be m2280. But the fact is there's no such an slot. Pity.

If you want to add an SSD to the laptop, you have to replace the HDD with an SATA III SSD.  The HDD can replace the optical drive if you want to keep the HDD as the storage.

This is the 15t-k000 Service Manual:

Manual

There is a passing reference to an mSSD drive in the parts list on page 26, but no other reference to it in the Manual. I believe the slot can only be accessed by removing the motherboard, as is also true for the memory. The slot is on the motherboard but not accessible through any easily removeable panel.

These are the parts referenced:

256 GB mSATA solid-state drive MLC (not pictured) 766593-001
256 GB mSATA solid-state drive TLC (not pictured) 766594-001

Using google images I came up with this for the latter part:

That is not an m2280...which are the kind of SSDs used in the new Mac Pro and the new HP Omen laptop.

Thanks for your reply. And the manual you linked is exactly what I found for my laptop. But I still have several questions after read your reply.

First, I'm happy we share the same view that the slot should be seen after removing the motherboard, because I 've replaced the HDD with an SATA III SSD( OCZ Arc 100 series) and I didn't find any freeslot.

Second, the SSDs you listed as:

256 GB mSATA solid-state drive MLC (not pictured) 766593-001
256 GB mSATA solid-state drive TLC (not pictured) 766594-001

do appeared on page26, and they should be m.sata. But I assume they are preinstalled drives instead of the HDD, not the free slot.
Third, I found this on page4

and I think this means there do exist an m2280 slot for SSD under the motherboard.

Maybe the best way to figure this out is removing the motherboard and see inside.

Besides, does the laptop support 256G SSD only with memory under 8GB?  Coz' I found this on page 2.

I just finished a WLAN/LCD Resolution/RAM upgrade to its max potential. While i was doing that, I did find the m.2 sata slot. You have to remove the motherboard to see it under.
