You're very welcome.

Yes, that processor can run a 32 or 64 bit OS.

If you don't have a W7 64 bit installation disk (recovery disk set), you can contact HP and order one for around $10 delivered.   1-800-334-5144  in the USA/Canada.

Have the serial number handy to give to the customer services rep.

You will need to clean install W7.

You cannot upgrade from a 32 to a 64 bit OS, so you will need to reinstall all programs, personal files, etc.

Hi:

You would have to install a 64 bit operating system.

The most memory a 32 bit operating system can see and use is 4 GB.

Why it is only seeing 2 of 4 GB, that I would not know.

Normally you should be seeing 3 of 4 GB.

Thanks much for the reply - I didn't know that.  Before I look too silly to the office IT folks, is Windows 7 Pro readily upgradable to 64 bit on this (now ) older Intel Core Duo CPU @ 1.20 Ghz?

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

Here is the Intel spec sheet on the processor your notebook has.

http://ark.intel.com/products/36695/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-SU9300-3M-Cache-1_20-GHz-800-MHz-FSB

Under the instruction set spec, it indicates that it is a 64 bit capable processor.
