Envy 15 15-k202na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello all,

I have been struggling with a ram upgrade on a HP Envy 15 15k202na.

currenlty installed is 12gb consisting of a 4gb and an 8gb stick. (Both samsung sticks.)

Im looking to upgrade the 4gb stick to another 8gb. Work has supplied a corsair vengeance 1600 mhz 8gb ddr3 cl10 stick but try as i might i cant get the laptop to recognise it.

Is it going to be easier to just use the same ram stick that is in there now?

Boss is reluctant to spend any money on IT so am trying to get things done as cheap as possible.

Also i have tried the Crucial scan tool but that didnt come up with anything at all.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Hello @DustyMaytek,

Your PC will support upto 16GB RAM Max,

Tested :

https://www.mrmemory.co.uk/memory-ram-upgrades/hp/envy-notebook/15-k202na

http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP---Compaq/envy-15-k202na

Since your PC has 8GB already, You will have to remove the 4GB stick and install 8GB stick and make it 16GB in total.

From the guide :

Memory Two SODIMM slots

DDR3L-1600 MHz Dual Channel Support

Supports up to 16 GB of system RAM in the following configurations:

● 4096 MB total system memory (4096×1)

● 6144 MB total system memory (4096 MB + 2048 MB)

● 8192 MB total system memory (4096×2)

● 8192 MB total system memory (8192×1) ● 12288 MB total system memory (8192MB +4096)

● 16384 MB total system memory (8192×2)

Hi,

Your PC supports max 16gb 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM (2x8GB). The vengeance stick you are trying to insert i believe is a DDR3 stick and not DDR3L stick (which has lower voltage).

For best performance and stability it is best to use exactly the same RAM, and since your PC also supports dual-channel configuration it would be best idea to buy a kit of 2 sticks (cheap online) which are designed for this purpose.

Reference I used service manual on page 2

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04510889

spec sheet:

Hope it helps,

David
