I've just returned home from a trip away to find that the hard drive on my laptop has failed (the 301 error code). I've read several other posts on here from people who have encountered the same problem but I want to ask what people think of the idea of replacing the HDD with a SSHD?
Adding to the problem, I dont have the original discs that came with the computer so have no idea how/where to get a recovery disc without having to fork out for windows again?
Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks.

Hi @Bhp19,
Thank you for your quick response. You've done fabulous troubleshooting. Hat's off to you on that score. 🙂 It has been a privilege working with you. 🙂
I reviewed the response comprehensively. Going by the product specs of the machine from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-g6-Notebook-PC-series/5262606/model/5283099/document... the unit does not support Solid state drives.
I also will include the service manual link for a list supported hard drives for this computer. Service manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03277661 It has the Hard drive configuration and the associated part numbers for the required hard drive.
As this is an older computer and not manufactured by HP anymore, service options are no longer available for this product. Please contact a local Best Buy or Staples technician for getting the hard drive replaced. The service manual also gives you information on how to replace the hard drive.
Regarding the operating system as the unit is not manufactured anymore, the recovery media is also not created for this unit anymore. You will need to install a retail version of windows 7 64 bit on your computer by contacting a local technician.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this pans out. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

Yes that's right, it's a hardware failure where the HDD has failed and I now need to replace it but I want to know whether the Hybrid drives are any good or if I should just go straight to an SSD (finance are a limiting factor though)?
My second issue is that I don't have the discs that came with the laptop any more so I don't know how I'll re-install the operating system/windows etc. back onto the machine?
Thanks.

Thank you for such a comprehensive reply and letting me know that an SSD would not be compatible with my laptop, would I be right in saying that this applies to hybrid drives also?
Is there a particular replacement model that you could recommend for me as I'd like to increase both the size and speed of the current hard drive?
Thanks again David,
Ben.
