HELP!

My system doesn't see my optical drive from the desktop "Computer" icon.

Device manager sees the drive.

The drive spins up at boot time.

When I insert a CD/DVD the drive spins up for a few seconds, the green LED flashes.  Nothing else happens after that.

Trouble Shooting:

1. Attempted HHO1 firmware update. "This version not supported." Failed.

2. Uninstalled, reinstalled optical drive driver. Failed

3. Disabled/enabled the optical drive inDevice Manager. Failed

4. Unable to locate the correct driver on the net. Toshiba/Samsung site doesn't have the correct driver available. Failed.

5. I have BIOS F.66. Flashed the BIOS. Failed.

The last time this happened, I did a fresh factory install and that worked.

This time it didn't help.

Any assistance to resolve this problem would be would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Bruce

Hi:

See if performing one of the Resolution tips at the link below works.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/314060

Normally, Resolution #5 works in the case of the drive not appearing in ' Computer.'

I ran MS Mr. Fix it. It fixed it. 😄

Yes!

That was the solution to the problem.

I won't have to place a call to HP Support.

Much appreciated.

Hey Paul,

LTNS.

I found my answer without contacting HP support.

It wasn't a hardware problem at all.

I have Win 7 Pro on an ENVY 15t-j100.

The problem was with the MS battery driver.

1. Go to device device manager.

2. Delete the driver.

3. Reboot.

4.  The driver will reinstall itself.

5. Problem solved.

I don't know if this will work for everyone, but in this case it solved the problem.

It's worth a try and its a cheap, quick fix.

Cheers,

Bruce
