HP Envy 15 - AE101NX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I am going to buy new HP Envy 15" model AE101NX with i7, NVIDIA 4 GB Graphics, 16GB RAM and 2 TB HDD.

I would like to install additional SSD card in this.

According to HP Service manual PDF, it is mentioned as it supports.

Dual Storage Configurations (models with i7 processors and 4 GB discrete graphics memory only)
1TB (5400) 9.5mm + 256GB M.2 SATA SSD (TLC)

Could anybody please confirm whether I can add additional SSD to this laptop? Does this have additional slot availabel to add SSD?

Thanks

Vamshi

Yes. See p. 42 of the Manual here. Tecnically it is not an end-user authorized procedure. However, it requires "only" that you remove the back cover. It will take SATA, not PCIe M.2 mSSDs.

Thank you for your response with positive note as it supports SSD.

So after I buy this laptop, I can install SATA SSD (I will check the PIN size and model etc) and will try to install Windows OS as a fresh installation on SSD.

My last question in this regards is, when I install Widnows 10 OS on this, will the windows will be auto activated with BIOS key, even though preinstall windows on HDD is already activated?

Thanks

It's not exactly a BIOS key. Once activated, the Microsoft activation servers know your computer and will activate in the future any time you do a clean new install.
