A few weeks ago I bought this new HP Omen laptop and yesterday the fan started to rattle constantly. It seems like this is a hardware problem. Do I need to use my warranty already or is there a safe way to solve this?

Hello;
Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!
From here, there's really no way to tell whether this is simply some gunk that the fan keeps hitting, or the fan itself has become unstable and needs to be replaced.
I would suggest you work through these thread to see what can be found:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01007591?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0002
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00292159?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0005
If those don't yield anything useful, you paid for free HP Tech Support as part of the warranty coverage, so you might as well make use of it.
While this PC is still under warranty, you should contact HP Customer Support directly to have them put you in touch with HP Technical Support to see what they can do about troubleshooting and repairing your machine remotely.
I did this recently and the HP Tech was able to remotely access my PC from the Internet and do the needed repairs.
If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1
If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html
NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!
If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836

However, HP Customer Support is generally not available on the weekends, so you might have to wait until Monday to contact them.

Good Luck

I had this problem too
I saw a video of someone opening the laptop case and found that the blades of fan was touching something which makes rattling sound
Yesterday, I installed (NiceHash Miner 2) Software (Software for bitcoin mining)
I am not going to explain what bitcoin mining means exactly, but in few words it's selling your GPU power and get money for it. so it uses MAX PERFORMANCE of your GPU (MAX FAN SPEED).
When I launched the software and tried to test my GPU (GTX 1050Ti) it was launched at max performance with full speed of fan (make sure to check OMEN COMMAND CENTER for GPU UTILIZATION TEMPERATURE (for me it was below 67 celsius)
Launching the fan at full speed probably chipped away that peace that was touching the blade.
So it was unexpected solution but it worked!
