My laptop is a couple years old and the power cord (where the boxy thing is) gets hot after only a few minutes being plugged in. Is this normal? It is very warm but not too hot to touch. I checked and it's not one of the recalled power cords. Thanks.

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.
I understand that you have an HP Pavilion m7-1015dx Entertainment Notebook PC and the power gets hot after a few minutes of usage. You seem to have checked and it is not one of the recalled power cords (HP Notebook PC AC Power Cord Safety Recall and Replacement Program Announced August 26, 2014). I appreciate the analysis you did before posting.
I suggest you to check if it is only the power cable that it hot or if even the AC adapter brick is hot. Usually, the AC adapter brick gets a little hot and it is a normal behavior of the AC adapter. The power cord however, should not get hot. If the power cord is hotter than being warm then you could try replacing it and check.
The correct part no. for the power cord is 490371-001. You may reach out to HP phone support in case you plan to replace the power cord. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Cheers! 🙂
