I tried to upgrade my HP-dv7-3165dx RAM, after upgrading to Win-10 pro x64. (BIOS v.F15/2010).
Thought I knew what to do, antistatic and edges, after removing my factory 2x2gb RAM, replaced carefully both chips with brand new 2 x 4gb PC2-6400, 200pin SODIMM.
With battery and all out, I restarted PC and BSOD with 2 flashing LEDs (Caps Lock, Num Lock) flashing forever.
I removed one chip from (secondary) TOP slot, and rebooted normally, with only 1 chip (4gb) in lower slot...
Then I tried replacing my old chips, and same BSOD froze my BIOS CMOS startup ...
Now, apparently, I lost my Secondary (Top) mem. slot, since no matter what chip I use in it, the BIOS would freeze, and still no matter what chip I put in Primary (bottom) slot, the BIOS would start only with one mem. chip in primary !
To add insult to injury, my Win-10 installation quit on me, full of errors, until I recovered a recent backup image from an external USB drive ... ooooffff !!!
Now, is there a solution to regain my RAM chipset so I could use at least my old memory in both slots ?
What gives, folks?

Hi,
Sounds during the process, you actually caused physical damages for one RAM slot. I can help you with that but please to check all pins, connectors to make sure no damage to them. One more question: did you wear static trap when touching to internal machine ?
Regards.

Thanks for the hint, BH!
Yes, I wore antistatic wrist, grounded, and Yes, I checked with a magnifier all pins in upper mem slot.
I found no sign of physical damage thru all wires.
CMOS / BIOS would freeze BSOD when putting only one SODIMM in Upper slot, or in both slots.
BIOS and OS would start only when Lower slot is in use.
What else?
