Hi:

If your notebook did not come with a M.2 SSD from HP, then it does not have a M.2 slot.

I would never put a SSD in an optical drive caddy, because it uses a slower speed port.

Replace the existing 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SSD and use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use that utility.

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7) | HP® Customer Support

Then if you want to put the mechanical hard drive in a DVD drive caddy and use it for extra storage, you could do that.

There is only one wifi card you can upgrade to since your notebook only has one antenna cable and that is this one...

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.

You can find this model on eBay, or Ali Express,

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=L17365-005&_sacat=0&_sop=15

The card will have the same throughput as the 8723BE/DE on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band, it will have a max throughput of 433 MBPS when you have an AC router with an excellent wifi signal strength.
