HP Pavilion dv6700t (CTO)
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello,

I will be replacing my hard drive on my HP Pavilion Laptop, and after looking at the HP support site, I have some questions.

The p/n is: KT260AV

1) Once I install the new hard drive, I want to do a fresh install of Windows 7 x64. Will all I have to do is boot the computer with windows 7 x64 iso on USB drive inserted, or will I need to update the BIOS, and/or make some other software/firmware change?

2) Once I have Windows 7 x64 installed on the new drive without issue(s), could/should I attempt to upgrade to Windows 10?

I thank you in advance for your help,

Mike

Hi @mcast1286,

Windows update will find the generic driver updates for your laptop, but not all the drivers are compatible. Some people lost some function when upgrading from Windows 7 to 10 due to the drivers issue. You can try to install the Windows 7 on your laptop, but the performance is not guaranteed.

Hi @mcast1286,

Thank you for posting at HP Forums! I have read your post and wanted to help.

I understand that you will install a new hard drive on the laptop Pavilion dv6700t (CTO). It is better to use the recovery media to install the original OS which is Windows Vista, because there is no drivers released for Windows 7 on the HP support page: http://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dv6700-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/...

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Let me get this straight... are you saying that, when doing a fresh install, I should update with the original OS that the computer had first, then update to Win 7, then update to Win 10?

And wouldn't WIndows Update update my computer's drivers?

Thanks
