Attempting upgrade from 6 to 8GB (2 x 4 GB). Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
New memory from Kingston, PC3, 10600, KVR13S9S8K2/8R.
Turned on the laptop after the upgrade and got 'Windows is loading file' message. After that,
Was presented with two options; Launch startup repair and Start windows normally
Either option selected, the machine just goes into the same boot up loop and you then presented with the same two options.
Windows did not load.
Tried (1 x 4 GB) card alone, and no joy either. (Blue Screen)
Does not seem to like the new memory Any Help out there?

Hi:
There is only one specific brand of memory with this part number that I know of that will work.
This applies to any HP notebook with an Intel series 5 chipset.
See this discussion...there are several more if you want to do a search. I have posted the link to the memory you need in the discussion.

Thanks a million. Before I order, from what I could determine, this box can be upgraded to 8 GB of RAM.
Can my machine be upgraded to 16 GB ? Thanks. (i5 M460 2.53 GHZ)

You're very welcome.
Your model's specific configuration cannot be upgraded to 16 GB.
A few forum members did upgrade their dv7's to 16 GB on their notebooks that had the i7 quad core processors, such as the i7-840QM, even though the specs state the max is 8 GB.
You cannot do that on the dual core processor notebooks, nor can you simply change the processor without also replacing the motherboard for the one that supports quad core processors.
So, 2 x 4 GB is the absolute max for your notebook.
