Laptop only came with 4GB of memory and I am trying to figure out what is the max amount of memory that can be installed and still be recognized.

The chart on page 2-3 of this Manual shows you can take up to 16 gigs (2 x 8 gig) DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM.
Look for the "E2" (that is your processor type) at the top of the column.
"How-to" on p. 46.

Your laptop came with AMD Quad-Core E2-7110, UMA graphics, 4gb stick.

DDR3L-1600 single channel support, 1.35V
Supports up to 16 GB of system RAM in the following conƭgurations
● 16384-MB total system memory (8192×2)
● 12288-MB total system memory (8192×1) + (4096×1)
● 8192-MB total system memory (8192×1) or (4096×2)
● 6144-MB total system memory (4096×1) + (2048×1)
You've get the module of exact configuration, speed, voltage as given in manual and which is on the other slot.
Crucial, Samsung, Hynix are good brands.
