Up until this week I always received a 'warning' that my battery is running low, 14%. Four times this week, my laptop has just shut down without warning. A techie friend of mine has talked me through the settings for the batttery and it set up to notify me when it's down to 14% low. Mt techie friend suggested this may be a hard drive issue. Any suggestions please?

I tried F2 as suggested and 2 cells were full, the third 98% full and the fourth empty.
Thank you for your suggestion and yes, It's time for a new battery.
Many thanks Steve

How old is the battery? Have you run the battery diagnostic in UEFI (F2 as you power up) or within the HP Support Assistant? If the chip inside the battery is going bad or even if one of the cells has died, the warnings may no longer work and the laptop can just cut off. Bad hard drive seems unlikely but you can test that also in UEFI diagnostics.
