I want to upgrade my RAM but the lapotop's product specification doesn't specify the number of memory slots available and the maximium memory supported.

I need this information in order to upgrade my RAM.

Thanks for the help.

Hi,

Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04438537

Specs: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-15-Notebook-PC-series/6529948/model/6622555/document...

I have similar model. It comes with one 4gb stick in one slot.

It has 2 slots.

Upto 16gb (two 8gb sticks) possible. 12gb is what Manual list. That would not be a problem.

You need DDR3L PC3L-12800 1600MHz 1.35V SO-DIMM SDRAM.

Get the exact configuration, speed, voltage modules as given in manual. You can put another 4gb stick same as one already there.

Get Crucial, Samsung, Hynix, Kingston brands.

I read on some websited that using 2 RAM sticks of different sizes is not recommended but the user manual says that it supports 12gb (4gb+8gb) RAM. So will it be safe to add an additional 8gb RAM stick with existing 4gb RAM ?

Thanks again.

I would get another 4gb stick, so that you'll get dual channel advantage (10-15% increase in performed compared to single channel).

Also there is no need to go above 8gb total in that machine. You're not going to get any better performance.

If you need huge improvement, I'll will strongly suggest you to upgrade HDD to 2.5 inch 7mm thick SATA SSD as I did in my Pavilion 15 laptop.

The reason I'm updrading my RAM is because I need to use android studio smoothly. Right now I cannot do browsing or do any other task without any lag when android studio is running. It recommended RAM is 8gb (https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html#Requirements). This is why I thought of upgradin to 12 gb.

What do you suggest, should I go for 4gb+4gb or 4gb+8gb?

Thanks.

4+4 RAM.

SSD upgrade.
