A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING - STARTED TO RUN RECOVERY TO GO BACK FROM WINDOWS 10 TO WINDOWS 7 REQUESTED BY A CUSTOMER --BOUGHT THE DISC SET FROM HP AWHILE AGO --- FORMATS THE HD QUICKLY, STARTS TO LOAD FILES BUT STOPS AT 8% IN--SOMETIMES CAN OPEN THE DRIVE TRAY AND CONTINUE BUT GETS TO 15% AND ITS OVER --STARTED OVER 3-4 TIMES -----NO LUCK---CHANGED DISC DRIVE---NO LUCK---CHANGED TO NEW HARD DRIVE---NO LUCK ---CLEANED THE DISCS ----- LAST RESORT NOW IS TO ORDER A NEW DISC SET ----WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS--- ANYTHING ELSE THAT SHOULD BE DONE???

TOOK OUT 4GB - NOW BACK TO ORIGINAL 8GB RAM -  NOT GOOD - COPY FILES FAIL @ 3.4.8.19% AND KEEP RUNNING BUT REPEATED 19% - 5 TIMES - KEPT RUNNING BUT NEVER ADVANCED ???

 

A NEW DAY TODAY - VERY FRUSTRATING  -  GOT A NEW SET OF RECOVERY DISCS JUST TO GET SOME COMPARATIVE DIRECTION  -  SHOULD HAVE SAVED MY MONEY - STALLS AT 5%

 

COME TO THINK BACK - A FRIEND OF MINE SAID THAT SHE HAD A DISC WITH (OFFICE 2010) ON IT AND THIS MACHINE WOULDNT READ IT ---THE MACHINES IN HER OFFICE ALL COULD READ HER DISC ---  WITH WHAT SHE SAID AND I RAN TWO DIFFERENT SETS OF RECOVERY DISCS THAT THIS MACHINE IS READING DISCS WRONG OR NOT AT ALL

 

 OK SUMMARY - HD AND RAM IS GOOD  - I SWITCHED THE OPTICAL DRIVE AND BACK AGAIN  --NEW RECOVERY DISC SET- NO DIFFERANCE------ I'M NOW TRYING IT AGAIN- THE DRIVE HAS BEEN RUNNING AND 15 MINUTES WE GOT 3%

IT JUST AINT WORKIN------------

WASN'T GIVING UP BY A LONG SHOT -SATURDAY STARTED RECOVERY AGAIN AND AFTER STARTING A FEW TIMES I GOT A MESSAGE THAT SAID NO BOOT (FROM THE OPTICAL DRIVE) SO IT APPEARS THAT THIS DRIVE WORKED SOMETIMES  (THE POSSIBLE REASON FOR THE STALLS???) ANYHOW PUT IN A NEW DRIVE AND STARTED TO RUN A NEW RECOVERY SESSION AND I SAT THERE AND BABY SAT THE FAILS ALL SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING.(GOD KNOWS WHY IT TOOK ALL AFTERNOON AND EVENING TO GET 58% FILE COPIES SO i CONTINUED ON SUNDAY AND A FEW FAILS BUT SO SLOW------

SUNDAY---MUCH OF THE SAME BUT WE ARE STILL GOING----MONDAY ITS DONE

PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE  AND I TELL ANYONE WHO IS RUNNING RECOVERY ---IF IT SAYS WAIT----WAIT

 

PS  I'VE RUN QUITE AFVEW RECOVERY SESSIONS BUT NEVER REMEMBER 3 DAYS TO GET IT DONE

Have you tested the memory? Not sure if that model has the diagnostics in BIOS for hard drive & memory.

Diagnostics say RAM OK and hd Ok - I think i mentioned i changed hd and the ram was an additional new 8gb i added

It seems the only thing left is new discs ??

Try running Recovery with the original ram configuration.

Wow, that took some patience. Glad to hear it "finally" paid off. Since you switched out the optical drive with same slow performance & the owner mentioned problems reading disc I would start to suspect the cable for the drive if you didn't try another- or more serious the controller on motherboard. If/when you ever need to run Recovery again I would suggest trying an external USB Optical drive.
