Power Pavilion 17t
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have the HP Power Pavilion 17t with the i7-7700hq and gtx 1050.  It comes with 8GB ram.  Thinking about adding another 8GB stick and would like to see if I can get a matching stick to pair with the existing one.  Can I buy it directly from HP?  If not, does anyone know what is the exact matching stick to buy?

Also is 16GB max allowed for this laptop or can this go up more, e.g. 32GB (16GB x 2)?

Product:  HP Pavilion - 17t-ab200 CTO

Product#:  X7N37AV

From the Manual:

Supports up to 16 GB max system

Service Manual

8 gb DDR4-2400:

8GB 2400 MHz 1.2v SODIMM DDR4 862398-855

HP does not have this memory for sale in its Part Store.

This memory will work:

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC4-19200-SODIMM-260-Pin-CT8G4SFS824A/dp/B01BIWKP58/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF...

See p. 41 of the Manual for "how to". You have to remove the entire base enclosure (bottom cover). If it is done successfully the warranty will still be in place but any damage is on you.

Thanks Huffer!

No bios update for it to accept 32GB?   :Crying:

HP Recommended

No it takes more than just BIOS to double memory capacity. I actually think the hardware is such that it is likely to accept 32 gigs if you installed a pair of 16 gig modules, but I cannot in good conscience advise you to gamble about $250 on a hunch so stick with 16 gigs since I can assure you that will work.

HP Recommended

Well the SOC can definitely take it-- up to 64GB to be exact.  But you're right, the MB may not be able to handle 32GB.

Hey @Huffer,

Is there a difference between my X7N37AV and the X7N62AV?  To me they look exactly alike.  The reason why I'm asking is that the latter is being sold at outlets like Amazon and NewEgg which has 32GB memory and m.2 SSD configurations:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=2WC-0001-001A6

Well I guess somebody else decided to see if it can take 32 gigs and I was right...it can. $95 upgrade to go from 16 gigs to 32 gigs is actually somewhat reasonable. You might see if you can contact the seller and ask how they are selling them with 32 gigs. And also they obviously can accept an M.2 disk.

So are those laptops identical even with the slight variation in product #?  Again mine is X7N37AV (still in the box-- I'm going off of the sticker on the box) and those on Amazon/Newegg is X7N62AV.

HP Recommended

Not identical but as far as I can tell the hardware specs are the same. They would fall under the same Service Manual so the motherboard specs have to be the same. HP will sometimes sell exactly identical laptops under multiple Product Numbers, the only difference being the distribution channel; i.e direct from HP or to a retailer.

HP Recommended

Ahh... makes sense. I got mine direct from HP so it used X7N37AV.  However when I ordered from the HP store web site, the product number was X7N62AV_1.  Go figure!

BTW, someone else confirmed this can do 32GB-- used the Crucial kit here:  https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-16GBx2-PC4-19200-Unbuffered-260-Pin/dp/B019FRCV9G
