At the password screen, hit enter 3 times and you should receive a 'halt code' - post back with this code.

In that case, check that the halt code you've posted is correct.
Is there an 'i' before the halt code?

Hi,
Unfortunately the hashing routine for any codes that start with a 'i' have changed, so at the moment your options are down to Contacting HP support.
or
You can still remove a power on password by removing the rtc cell, then holding down the power button for 60 seconds before re-inserting the rtc - if you need a service guide, post back with the Model No. of your notebook.
