HP Pavilion 15-p050nf Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I would like to upgrade the original HDD for a new SSD on my HP Pavilion 15-p050nf, but I don’t know if it is possible on such an old machine. I tried to read all of the documentation available on the website, but it is not specified anywhere.  Besides, HP’s assistance does not want to answer the question because the warranty has expired since 2015.

On Crucial’s website, it is written that both of the devices (my HP and a MX500) are compatible. But, because I don’t know if Crucial is a HP partner, I don’t know about the reliability of this message.

Thank you by advance.

Hi:

I have much older notebooks than yours and have installed SSD's in them with no problem.

I even installed a SSD in an old HP nc6400 notebook which has a SATA I drive controller and it still made a great improvement over the 2.5" mechanical hard drive.

Your notebook's SATA controller is SATA III, and I have installed a 2.5" SATA SSD in a similarly equipped HP 350 G1 business class notebook which has the i3-4005U processor, and it works fine.

The only reason HP didn't list that a 2.5" SSD was supported in the manual is because they didn't offer any in the 15-p0xxx model series.

I don't see any reason why a Crucial MX500 or any other brand 2.5" SSD wouldn't work in your notebook.
