Have 8 GB RAM. I am thinking about upgrading to 16 GB of RAM. (1) What is a compatible RAM and (2) How do I determine exact manufacturer details about installed RAM? I would like to match with just 8 more GB of identical RAM, but all I can determine from system information is that it has 8 GB of RAM.

Here is what the Service Manual says about that:
2 customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slots Supports dual-channel memory Supports up to 8 GB of system RAM PC2-6400, 800-MHz, DDR2
So you have 2 slots. Max memory is 8 gigs of DDR2-800 SO-DIMM. The biggest modules made of DDR2 were 4 gigs and a pair of them now at retail is about $200 so you have some valuable memory in your laptop and you have the most memory that laptop can use. When that laptop came out, 8 gigs of RAM was a fantastic thing.

Thank you Huffer.
Yes, it held the most RAM that was available, but I see now that the Motherboard is maxed out at 8 GB. Since I have students to tutor 1 on 1, I got the biggest HP Laptop availiable and added a lot of bells and whistles for about $3K+. Except for the fan, it has been great. I added a 500 GB SSD and reinstalled Windows 7. Now it is fantastic.
Thanks again for your help!
