Hi @Delsoft,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy x360 2-in-1 14-es0033dx laptop's battery isn't lasting for even 5 hours, there are several potential factors and troubleshooting steps to consider:

Battery Health: First, check the health of your laptop's battery. Batteries degrade over time and with use. HP provides a built-in tool called HP Support Assistant that can help you check the battery's health. To use it, search for "HP Support Assistant" on your laptop and follow the instructions to run a battery check.

Battery Usage and Power Settings: The way you use your laptop significantly impacts battery life. High screen brightness, running multiple apps simultaneously, heavy tasks like video editing or gaming, and having many background processes can all drain the battery faster. Consider adjusting your power settings:

  • Reduce the screen brightness.
  • Change your power plan to "Power saver" or a balanced mode.
  • Limit background applications from running.

Software and Applications: Some software and apps consume more power. Review what software is running on your laptop, especially look out for:

  • Resource-intensive programs running in the background (e.g., anti-virus scans, software updates, etc.).
  • Numerous browser tabs open simultaneously, especially with resource-heavy websites or streaming services.

Hardware Components: Although less likely to be customized in laptops like the HP Envy x360, understand that higher specifications and peripheral components (like external drives or mice) also consume more power.

Operating System and Drivers: Make sure your laptop's operating system and all drivers are up to date. Sometimes, older versions of drivers or operating systems are less efficient or might contain bugs that affect battery performance.

System Management Controller (SMC) Reset: For persistent issues, resetting the system management functions might help, although this is more common in advice for Macs. On HP laptops, similar results might be achieved by performing a BIOS reset or update.

Ambient Temperature: Batteries perform best at room temperature. Using the laptop in very hot conditions can lead to quicker battery drain.

Battery Calibration: Sometimes, the laptop's software that estimates battery life can be out of sync with the actual battery life. Recalibrating the battery sometimes helps. To recalibrate:

  • Fully charge the battery to 100%, then let it drain completely until the laptop shuts down.
  • After that, charge it back to 100% without interruption.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
