The transfer speed of hard disk is what we want to look for.

Hi,

SATA-3 is reverse compatible with SATA-2 and 1 ports.

Motherboard may have SATA-2 support and you put SATA-3 hard drive but it would operate within SATA-2 speed only.

Run this tool to know motherboard supported SATA speed: http://www.piriform.com/speccy
