No error msg but battery need charging more now then before. Fan comes on after a very short time.

The battery life gets shorter as the battery ages. Normal. As for fan running more- have you cleaned the laptop lately with compressed air? If not pick up a can and use the tiny straw that comes with it to blow out all of the vents, ports and other openings to be sure it has good airflow for cooling.

Are you saying that after upgrading to Windows 10 is when the fan started running more? If so that may be why it is heating up more and causing the fan to run. One machine here runs hot after the upgrade.Think it is due mainly to no graphics driver available for Windows 10 on this machine. Planning to return it to Windows 7 when/if I can find some free time.
