Actually in the market both are same.
WLEDs are also LCD except for the backlighting.
If you look closer, the technicality is little bit different: WLED has LEDs evenly distributed throughout the back of the screen so it turn off individually to achieve true black whereas
Standard LCD screens have a CCFL on top and on bottom of the screen (anyone who has disassembled an LCD knows this), and these light the entire screen, which means there will be uneven light conditions at different parts of the screen, and a true black is impossible, because the CCFL's can't cause just certain parts of the screen to go completely dark.

But what they mean by "diagonal" ??

Hi

Diagonal HDs are the norm today unless otherwise stated in the case of laptops, tv etc.
15.6 "diagonal HD LED display" screen is 15.6" measured diagonally from the top corner to the opposite bottom corner(diagonally).
They all have same aspect ratio of 16:9 unlike older 4:3 laptops which were actually very good for the eyes causing less strain as 4:3 screens contain much more area covered then 16:9 for a fixed diagonal length.

Not happy with answers about WLED. Just bought new pavillion gamer laptop. Has IPS WLED. So is it edge lit or full panel lit ? Does it turn off LED's in sections or individually? Where can I find the product code for the screen? Anybody help?

What you asking goes beyond this forum help provides. Your best to contact HP support directly and talk to them instead.

FYI also your Pavillion Gamer is not a True Gamer laptop by any stretch of the imagination. If it was a Gameing laptop you be spending 2000US to buy such laptops.
